Berkeley CA Supports Conscientious Objectors! 12/8/01-BERKELEY IS TRYING TO DO IT AGAIN! On the agenda for the December 11, 2001 City Council meeting is a item titled "Conscientious Objection to War". Berkeley is now affirmatively trying to thwart the American military!
John Harrigan:Deer Letter Gets My Goat -12/2/01- This incredible letter ran in Monday's Union Leader, and I cut it out and kept it so I could enjoy getting mad all over again every time I read it. PETA Supports Terrorism - 11/25/01- Listen to Bruce Friedrich Call for Violence. In a recent article, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' Ingrid Newkirk claimed that her group does not condone violence. Really? Then why did Bruce Friedrich tell a group at the Animal Rights 2001 Conference that while he doesn't "blow up stuff, ...I do advocate it, and I think it's a great way to bring about animal liberation."
The Deer Wars Part II- Mad Science - 11/22/01- Bio-Bullets and darts filled with an experimental drug are being used to sterilize deer. Then there are the other options, such as splicing a sterilization agent onto a virus and setting it loose. An update on deer birth control.
The Myth of Wildlife Management - 11/22/01 - if the USFWS and its state counterparts can't legitimately manage $400 million a year, what hope is there that they will act with any greater integrity once they get their hands on $3 billion a year? CARA is clearly one pork-pie the Congress must not be allowed to bake.
Some Gave All -11/20/01 - I just watched "Doc" with Billy Ray Cyruss. It was a show on Veterans. First off yes I liked Achy Breaky Heart, but it wasn't until 1993 when I heard "Some Gave All" that I bought the CD!

Operating within the Department of Transportation during peacetime, the Service falls under the direction of the Secretary of the Navy upon declaration of war or when the President directs. The Coast Guard is a unique federal agency.
State Listening to Anglers -As Printed in The Exeter News-Letter on Tuesday, November 13th, 2001. A group of fishermen started a discussion on an Internet message board. The discussion started as a comment on the quality of the warm water fishery in Lake Winnipesaukee. Warm Water species include bass, pickerel and perch. The idea of bringing some of the points in the discussion to the attention of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department (NHF&G) prompted the first Warm Water Fisheries Meeting, which was held on Thursday, January 11th of this year.
Animal Rights Terrorists! - Bombs going off in our own Country! "Radical Animal Rights Groups Step Up Protests" PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 8 The incidents have not tailed off, even since Sept. 11: a firebombing at a federal corral for wild horses in northeastern California; a fire at a primate research center in New Mexico, and back-to-back break-ins in Iowa, one at a fur farm to release more than 1,000 mink, the other to free pigeons raised for research.
USS Cole Floats A Day Ahead of Schedule - As Printed in The Exeter News-Letter on Tuesday November 6th, 2001. On Friday, September 14th, The USS Cole was set afloat again and it was done a day ahead of schedule. The shipyard in Pascagoula Mississippi worked diligently to get the USS Cole back on the water. Congratulations to all for their valiant effort. The USS Cole had been the victim of a terrorist attack while refueling in Yemen last October.
The Dream or A Visitor From the Past- AUTHOR UNKNOWN - I had a dream the other night that I, well, did not understand, A figure rushing through the mist with a flintlock in his hand. His clothes were torn and dirty as he stood there by my bed, He took off his three cornered hat and speaking low to me he said, We fought a revolution to secure our liberty, and created a Constitution as a shield from tyranny, for future generations to cherish and save, In this, the land of the free and home of the brave.

Boys just want to have violent toys
Mark Patinkin 12.23.2001
As a responsible parent, I should be agreeing with The Lion and
Lamb Project. It just made news with a list of the "dirty
dozen" toys supposedly too violent for children.
But I looked at the list. And my main reaction was: "I have
to get these for my sons."
For example, The Commandobot3. Horrified, Lion and Lamb put this
at the top of their don't-buy list. It is described this way:
"A foot-high robot that shoots up to 10 missiles at family
members and friends while defending a child's room."
I can't imagine a toy my sons would like more. They are now 10
and 8. Most parents with boys that age would understand.
Years ago, I kind of shared the outlook of the Lion and Lamb
Project. I figured parents could shape children any way they
chose. If you taught them to like coloring instead of fighting,
they would.
The reality is this: You could give my sons long-stemmed pink
roses, and they would imagine them as Uzi machine guns and
attempt to mow each other down. When they were younger, we
watched Bambi 50 times. It didn't take. They like war movies now.
If the bombing scenes are followed by a kissing scene, it makes
them sick, and they ask why such offensive images are allowed on
screen.

Love to see COMMON SENSE from the Providence Journal!
Way to go Mr. Patinkin!
E-Mail Mr. Patinkin: mpatinkin@projo.com
Mr. Patinkin,
Great column on toys for boys! It is wonderful to see common
sense columns written in the ProJo!
Hiding kids from violence and sex will only peak their curiosity.
Let kids be kids and monitor them appropriately. Yes, some video
games are extremely violent, but that's why parents need to
monitor what their kids are doing and playing with. Whether it's
the Internet, video games, or building things in the garage, a
parent needs to monitor them.
Yes, certain ages shouldn't play real life violent video games,
but going outside and playing Army or Cowboys and Indians (Oh Oh,
the P.C. Police will be after me for that comment) is just kids
being kids.
Good Parents don't need the Government or some agency telling
them what their kids should and shouldn't be doing! Good Parents
already know that!
Thanks Again for a great column!

Mother in Early shoots, kills intruder
Authorities are seeking a second man who fled the
scene. The woman's three children were not hurt in the incident.
By FRANCES STARKEY Register Staff Writer 12/15/2001
A mother of three in Early shot and killed an intruder Thursday
night after two men entered her home and assaulted her,
authorities said.
Tracey Roberts was home with her three children, ages 1, 3 and
11, when two men entered the home, according to the Sac County
Sheriff's Department. Roberts' husband, Mike Roberts, was
reportedly out of town on business.
The two intruders assaulted Roberts before she got away from them
and grabbed a gun, authorities said. Roberts fired several times
and fatally wounded Dustin Wehde, 20, of Early, according to the
sheriff's office. It wasn't clear who owned the gun.
Preliminary results from the state medical examiner show that
Wehde died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Folks,
All my life I've felt priviledged to have good friends around me,
priviledged to do the kind of work I know and love the best, and
to have been born in a country whose immense beauty and grandeur
are matched only by the greatness of her people.
For a number of years I have tried to express a deep and profound
love for these things; to be able to say what I've felt in my
heart. And now, in this album, I've had a chance to do so.
I know most of you feel the same way about our country. Now and
then we gripe about some of her imperfections, but sometimes
that's good. Especially if it gets us working together to make
things better. It seems to me we often take too much for granted,
and have a tendency to forget "The Good Things About
America."
My hope and prayer is that everyone know and love our country for
what she really is and what she stands for. May we nurture her
strengths and strengthen her weaknesses so that she will always
be "The Land of the Free, and Home of the Brave."
Sincerely,
John Wayne
"WHY I LOVE HER" (America)
You ask me Why I Love Her?
Well, give me time and I'll explain.
Have you seen a Kansas sunset
Or an Arizona rain?
Have you drifted on a bayou
Down Louisiana way?
Have you watched a cold fog drifting
Over San Francisco Bay?
Have you heard a bobwhite calling
In the Carolina pines,
Or heard the bellow of a diesel
At the Appalachia mines?
Does the call of Niagara thrill you
When you hear her waters roar?
Do you look with awe and wonder
At her Massachusetts shore,
Where men who braved a hard new world
First stepped on Plymouth's rock?
And do you think of them when you stroll
Along a New York City dock?
Have you seen a snowflake drifting
In the Rockies, way up high?
Have you seen the sun come blazing down
From a bright Nevada sky?
Do you hail to the Columbia
As she rushes to the sea,
Or bow your head at Gettysburg
At our struggle to be free?
Have you seen the mighty Tetons?
Have you watched an eagle soar?
Have you seen the Mississippi
Roll along Missouri's shore?
Have you felt a chill at Michigan
When on a winter's day
Her waters rage along the shore
In thunderous display?
Does the word "Aloha" make you warm?
Do you stare in disbelief
When you see the surf
Come roaring in at Waimea Reef?
From Alaska's cold to the Everglades,
From the Rio Grande to Maine,
My heart cries out, my pulse runs fast
At the might of her domain.
You ask me Why I Love Her?
I've a million reasons why:
My Beautiful America,
Beneath God's wide, wide sky.

Bill would create guilty but insane law
By HOLLY RAMER
Associated Press Writer
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) A teen-ager charged with killing two
Dartmouth College professors would be one of the last defendants
to plead innocent by reason of insanity in New Hampshire if an
Exeter man gets his way.
Lawyers for Robert Tulloch said last month the Vermont teen-ager
will use an insanity defense when he goes to trial this spring.
By then, the Legislature will be considering a bill that would
replace a state law that allows "not guilty by reason of
insanity" pleas with one allowing defendants to plead
"guilty but insane."
Rep. Marshall Quandt, R-Exeter, sponsored the bill at the request
of a constituent, Ken Goodall, who said he believes the current
plea is "a complete lie."
"That plea is an admission of guilt, in my opinion,"
Goodall said in a recent interview. "Whether you understood
what you did or not, you are guilty."
Goodalls inspiration for the bill was the case of Michael
McDermott, who is charged with killing seven co-workers in
Wakefield, Mass., last December. McDermotts lawyers have
said they will use an insanity defense.
"What weve lost in our society is personal
responsibility," said Goodall, a security technician from
Exeter. "People are always looking to blame other
things."

Just to let you know (From Charlie Daniels)
One of our Club Members and Newton resident found
this and forwarded it to me:
Just to let you know (From Charlie Daniels)
There are probably some of you folks out there who are wondering
why we didnt appear on the CMT Country Freedom Concert for
the Salvation Army to benefit the victims of the September 11th
Attack on America. We were announced and scheduled and had every
intention of doing the show, until we gave the CMT folks the
lyrics to a new song I had written and wanted to perform on the
show. After receiving the words they informed us that we could
not do the song on the show and when we asked them why they said
that the show was a healing type show and they were afraid that
the song would offend someone.
I would never do anything to hurt the show but I knew that they
had the very epitome of country stars and didnt
particularly need us to sell tickets. With this in mind, I
decided to pull off the show for personal reasons which I would
like to share with you. Let me preface my remarks by saying that
I respect CMTs right to not allow anything they dont
agree with to go out over their airwaves. And in all fairness, I
guess they were taking the sensibilities of the victims
families into account. But I respectfully and vehemently disagree
with their stand.
First of all, I dont feel that this is the time for
healing. I feel that this is the time to rub salt in the wounds
and keep America focused on the job at hand. We lost almost seven
thousand people in the Trade Towers and Pentagon and were
worrying about offending somebody? We have seven month old babies
infected with Anthrax and were afraid well hurt
someones feelings?
Brave Americans forced a plane down in a field in Pennsylvania
and were worried about ruffling someones feathers?
Were sending our sons and daughters off to fight and
perhaps die in a war we had nothing to do with starting and
were concerned about insulting somebody? I felt to give
into this political correctness would be to turn my back on the
people who lost their lives on 9 -11 and on the brave men and
women who defend this country.
The title of the song is This Aint No Rag Its A
Flag, and I dont apologize for a word in Ill
let you all decide for yourselves:
"This Ain't No Rag It's A Flag"
This ain't no rag it's a flag
And we don't wear it on our heads
It's a symbol of the land where the good guys live
Are you listening to what I said
You're a coward and a fool
And you broke all of the rules
And you wounded our American pride
And now we're coming with a gun
And we know you're gonna run
But you can't find no place to hide
We're gonna hunt you down like a mad dog hound
Make you pay for the live you stole
We're all through talking and a messing around
And now it's time to rock and roll
These colors don't run and we're speaking as one
When we say united we stand
When you mess with one, you mess with us all
Every boy, girl, woman and man
You've been acting mighty rash
And talking that trash
Let me give you some advice
You can crawl back in your hole
Like a dirty little mole
But now you're gonna pay the price
You might of shot us in the back
Now you have to face the fact
That the big boys' in the game
And the lighening's been flashing
And the thunder's been crashing
And now it's getting ready to rain
Chorus:
This is the United States of America
The land of the brave and the free
We believe in God and we believe in justice
We believe in liberty
You've been pulling our chain
We should've done something 'bout you a long time ago
But now the flag's flying high and the fur's gonna fly
And soon the whole world's gonna know
This ain't no rag, it's a flag
Old Glory red, white and blue
The stars and the stripes when it comes to a fight
We can do what we have to do
Our people stand proud
The American crowd is faithful, loyal and tough
We're good as the best and better than the rest
And you're gonna find out soon enough
When you look up in the sky
And you see the eagle fly
You better know he's a heading your way
Cause this ain't no rag it's a flag
And it stands for the USA
What do you think?
God Bless America

Urgent Help Needed!
The tragic events of September 11 and beyond have pushed CCCO to
the breaking point. Our telephones are ringing off their hooks at
both offices. Staff has been coming in earlier than usual,
working even later than usual and spending even more weekends in
the offices.

Leave it to the KOOKS in Kaliforinia! I have never attacked
anti-war groups for any politically motivated conflict or
"Police Action". I have never supported any of our
country's military actions in my lifetime, UNTIL NOW!
They attacked our homeland and killed thousands of innocent
civilians and this city wants to support and assist people to
avoid serving our country!
Freedom, Liberty, and Security come with a price, and
ocassionally we have to pay the price! It appears that these
liberals in Kalifornia don't believe in supporting the only
method to retain our rights and freedoms! They use our rights to
spout their political beliefs every chance they get, but when it
comes time to defend those rights, where are they now?
Maybe it's time to reconsider what we did when we took Kalifornia
from Mexico! I THINK IT'S TIME TO PAY REPARATIONS!
GIVE KALIFORNIA BACK TO MEXICO NOW!
John Harrigan: Deer letter gets my goat
I REALLY WANTED to write something kind of fun
for this week's issue, because I know a lot of far-flung families
and friends get together for Thanksgiving and stay over for the
weekend. Something about people so over-stuffed with turkey that
they can't get off the couch, or grizzled hunters who go out for
that traditional Thanksgiving hunt only to discover that the
hills have grown a lot steeper.
But this incredible letter ran in Monday's Union Leader, and I
cut it out and kept it so I could enjoy getting mad all over
again every time I read it. It was from a sensitive, concerned,
shocked, offended, appalled (add your own words here) father, and
the headline said, "Keep deer corpses out of view of
children."

Repatriating wolves is no drain on federal dollars
My Wolf Column ran in Foster's Daily Democrat and
the following is a letter to the editor in response to it:
To the editor:
Ken Goodall opines that the government and animal rights groups
"have wasted a ton of money on re-introducing wolves where
they are not wanted."
He then goes on to rant about the supposedly huge cost of the
three wolf reintroduction programs initiated thus far. He
concludes that, "If [wolves] are meant to re-inhabit New
Hampshire, they will do it on their own."
If Mr. Goodall is concerned about the fiscal impact of government
programs, he should study the balance sheet. Accounting for the
entire 20year span of design and implementation of
Americas wolf reintroduction programs, taxpayers have taken
less than a $25 million hit. Compare that figure to amount of
money Congress doles out to the livestock industry every single
year the results will astound you.
Consider, for example, the $40 million (plus) annual
appropriation to USDAs Wildlife Services program, money
used to kill hundreds of thousands of native carnivores each year
on behalf of a handful of ranchers.
Worse yet, this covert little war takes place in the face of
scientific evidence indicating that killing certain carnivores
such as coyotes simply creates more coyotes! This war on wildlife
takes a huge toll on the environment and is but a small fraction
of the subsidies given to the livestock industry.
American taxpayers have spent less than the cost of a cup of
coffee each on restoring wolves to less than 4 percent of their
former range. The job of repatriating these important carnivores
to the hunting grounds of their ancestors has farther to go. In
many instances reintroduction is the only practical means to
ensure that wolves get a chance to thrive. If fiscal
conservatives want to tighten the nations belt, theyd
get much more bang for their buck moving the livestock industry
off of the welfare rolls.

Carnivore Restoration Program

I just received this from a club member.
After checking it out, I found it to be a true story:
If you haven't served aboard ship -- "manning the rail"
is a shipboard ceremony reserved for only high ranking
dignitaries, such as Heads of State.
This is an e-mail from an Ensign stationed aboard the USS WINSTON
CHURCHILL:
Dear Dad,
Well, we are still out at sea, with little direction as to what
our next priority is. The remainder of our port visits, which
were to be centered around max liberty and goodwill to the United
Kingdom, have all but been cancelled. We have spent every day
since the attacks going back and forth within imaginary boxes
drawn in the ocean, standing high-security watches, and trying to
make the best of our time. It hasn't been that fun I must
confess, and to be even more honest, a lot of people are
frustrated at the fact that they either can't be home, or we
don't have more direction right now. We have seen the articles
and the photographs, and they are sickening. Being isolated as we
are, I don't think we appreciate the full scope of what is
happening back home, but we are definitely feeling the effects.
About two hours ago the junior officers were called to the bridge
to conduct Shiphandling drills. We were about to do a man
overboard when we got a call from the LUTJENS(D185), a German
warship that was moored ahead of us on the pier in Plymouth,
England. While in port, the WINSTON S CHURCHILL and the LUTJENS
got together for a sports day/cookout on our fantail, and we made
some pretty good friends. Now at sea they called over on
bridge-to-bridge, requesting to pass us close up on our port
side, to say good-bye. We prepared to render them honors on the
bridgewing, and the Captain told the crew to come topside to wish
them farewell.
As they were making their approach, our Conning Officer announced
through her binoculars that they were flying an American flag. As
they came even closer, we saw that it was flying at half-mast.
The bridgewing was crowded with people as the Boatswain's Mate
blew two whistles- Attention to Port- the ship came up alongside
and we saw that the entire crew of the German ship were manning
the rails, in their dress blues. They had made up a sign that was
displayed on the side that read "We Stand By You."
Needless to say there was not a dry eye on the bridge as they
stayed alongside us for a few minutes and we cut our salutes.
It was probably the most powerful thing I have seen in my entire
life and more than a few of us fought to retain our composure. It
was a beautiful day outside today. We are no longer at liberty to
divulge over unsecure e-mail our location, but we could not have
asked for a finer day at sea. The German Navy did an incredible
thing for this crew, and it has truly been the highest point in
the days since the attacks. It's amazing to think that only a
half-century ago things were quite different, and to see the
unity that is being demonstrated throughout Europe and the world
makes us all feel proud to be out here doing our job.
After the ship pulled away and we prepared to begin our man
overboard drills the Officer of the Deck turned to me and said
"I'm staying Navy."
I'll write you when I know more about when I'll be home, but for
now, this is probably the best news that I could send you.
Love you guys.

Listen to Bruce Friedrich Call for Violence
In a recent article, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals'
Ingrid Newkirk claimed that her group does not condone violence.
Really? Then why did Bruce Friedrich tell a group at the Animal
Rights 2001 Conference that while he doesn't "blow up
stuff,"
...I do advocate it, and I think it's a great way to bring about
animal liberation.
Thanks to the folks at the Guest Choice Network you can hear
Friedrich in his own words. They have a 1 megabyte WAV file of
Friedrich going on at lenghth about the glories of animal rights
terrorism.

Friedrick said that He "thought it would be a great thing if
all these fast food outlets, slaughterhouses, laboratories, and
banks that fund them exploded tomorrow"!
This certainly sounds like supporting terrorism to me!
His voice sounded awful familiar, then it hit me! Bruce Freidrick
is the Guy that Howie Carr has on his show on WRKO in Boston from
time to time!
It's about time we start treating domestic terrorists the same
way that we have treated the Taliban!
In a recent op-ed article, People for the Ethical Treatment of
Animals president Ingrid Newkirk defended her organization by
claiming that "PETA does not condone . . . violent
acts."
But in fact, PETA or its representatives have often rationalized
or celebrated violence. Consider just a few examples:
* In the December/January 2000 issue of 'Genre', PETA's Dan
Mathews was asked to name men of the 20th century he admired.
Mathews told the magazine he admired serial killer Andrew
Cunanan, "because he got Versace to stop doing fur."
* In 1999, an animal rights terrorist group calling itself the
Justice Department sent letters booby-trapped with razor blades
to medical researchers and fur farms in the United States and
Canada. When asked about the letters, Newkirk said, "I hope
it frightens them [the researchers] out of their careers. If
experimenters feel afraid now, that's nothing compared with the
fear, harm and death they have inflicted on their victims."
* In a new author's note in her book about the Animal Liberation
Front, 'Free the Animals', Newkirk writes, "Determined to
cause economic injury to the exploiters, ALF members burn down
their emptied buildings and smash their vehicles to smithereens.
Perhaps, after reading this book, you will find that you cannot
blame them."
* In 1994, PETA donated $42,500 to the Rodney Coronado Support
Committee. Coronado is an animal rights terrorist who in 1995
pleaded guilty to firebombing a medical research facility at
Michigan State University.
* In fact, Newkirk herself has expressed a wish to carry out
arson. At a 1997 animal rights convention she said, "I wish
we all would get up and go into the labs and take the animals out
or burn them down." In 1999 she expanded on that sentiment,
telling the 'Chronicle of Higher Education', "I find it
small wonder that the laboratories aren't all burning to the
ground. If I had more guts, I'd light a match."

One of these days one of these idiots is going to screw up and
burn a building with someone in it! Then this Politically Correct
country may wake up and do something about this kind of domestic
terrorism and those that support it!
The Deer Wars Part 2: Mad Science
Bio-Bullets and darts filled with an experimental drug are being
used to sterilize deer. Then there are the other options, such as
splicing a sterilization agent onto a virus and setting it loose.
An update on deer birth control.
EXCERPT:
The experiment is bold and groundbreaking. Years have already
been invested and budgets stretch well into six figures. Half a
dozen scientists are taking part along with dozens of volunteers.
But it's all going to be worth it, says the Humane Society of the
United States (HSUS), because in the end the research will prove
to the world that it doesn't take hunters to control deer
populations.
The Humane Society is a national organization with a staff of 250
and a membership of about 7 million. Its literature describes
lethal controls for deer as "irresponsible," so the
group's agenda is clear. But can this wealthy nonprofit
organization find a way to control deer without using hunters?
To achieve this goal, HSUS needs to prove it can control a wild,
free-roaming deer population with immunocontraception (birth
control). So its first step was to find a test area it could
control. It settled on Fire Island, a 32-mile-long and
half-mile-wide barrier island near the south shore of Long
Island, New York. Fire Island has more than 200 deer per square
mileso many whitetails that the bird life is nearly gone
due to overbrowsing. It's a test model where most of the island's
4,000 homeowners are affluent New Yorkers who use their homes as
getaways. The National Park Service, which owns one third of the
island, is even letting the scientists use parklandsHSUS
couldn't have asked for more.
Now it needed to prove that its sterilization drug could handle
the job.
The Miracle Drug The Humane Society is using a drug called
Porcine Zona Pellucida (PZP), a natural protein that allows boar
sperm to attach to a sow's ova. When injected into females of
other mammal species, PZP elicits antibodies against that
animal's sperm-recognition protein, thereby stopping sperm from
entering the egg.
The Humane Society got control of the drug when Dr. J.F.
Kirkpatrick, a scientist at ZooMontana's Science and Conservation
Center in Billings, Mont. (the center is partially funded by
HSUS), signed his Investigational New Animal Drug Document (INAD)
for PZP over to HSUS. This document, which is issued by the Food
and Drug Administration (FDA), is important, because without it,
no person or organization can use the drugunless, of
course, HSUS signs on.
Dr. Kirkpatrick's employer, Zoo-Montana, is the only major
producer of PZP. Its freezers are stuffed with pig ovaries from
Iowa's slaughterhouses, and its technicians work year-round
drawing PZP from sows' eggs.
But PZP is not perfect. It seemed like a miracle drug at first,
because it will sterilize any mammalhuman, goat, you name
itbut PZP's equal-opportunity nature makes it dangerous.
You can't put it on baits so that deer will ingest it orally,
because other animals might also ingest the drug. Scientists are
not even sure whether humans would be affected if they were to
consume the flesh of a PZP-treated deer. Because of this, Dr. J.
Russell Mason, a biologist with the USDA's National Wildlife
Research Center in Logan, Utah, argues, "What pharmaceutical
company would make such a lawsuit-luring monster?" This is
the main reason why PZP continues to be listed by the FDA as an
"experimental" drug.
Still, Dr. Allen Rutburg, a professor at Tufts University and a
member of HSUS's technical staff, says, "We do plan to gain
FDA approval for the drug. One day we hope the drug will be used
widely across the country instead of hunting."

Using experimental drugs when they don't even know what the
effects may be on humans and other animals!
The HSUS also wants to try attaching a sterilization agent onto a
virus and letting it lose? This group is OUT OF CONTROL!
There are problems with Anthrax and Gulf War syndrome and these
idiots want to start spreading a virus to control the birth rate
of deer?
Does anyone need more proof that these Animal Rights Activists
are idiots?
The Myth of
Wildlife Management
Follow the money; you won't like where it goes.
EXCERPT
In this two-part article, I'll describe first how the U.S. Fish
and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is no longer meeting its wildlife
management obligations to sportsmen under the Pittman-Robertson
and Dingell-Johnson (P-R and D-J, a.k.a. Wallop-Breaux) acts; and
second how, in particular, the USFWS has failed to live up to its
responsibilities under our migratory bird treaties with Canada
and Mexico.
EXCERPT
For example, prior to the 1980s, every USFWS employee responsible
for the disbursement of P-R and D-J funds had worked three or
more years for a state conservation agency. They were all
biologists, proud of the fund, and determined to see that it
remain dedicated to fish and game management. Their familiarity
with state policies and procedures also made them savvy about
almost every trick that politicians used to try to divert the
money to other purposes.
Then several things happened to corrupt the system. First, the
USFWS began replacing older biologists with less well trained
andin some casesclearly unqualified personnel, some
of whom seemed to believe that hunting was an outmoded facet of
American life. Inevitably, morale among traditional wildlife
managers took a nosedive from which it still hasn't recovered.
As experienced oversight workers were replaced by people who
didn't care aboutor were even downright hostile
tohunting, state and federal conservation administrators
found that they could use, with increasing impunity, P-R funds
for purposes other than game management. A few years ago, the
General Accounting Office found that the USFWS had diverted
between $40 million and $50 million of these earmarked monies to
other agencies with little or no stake in wildlife management.
Most scandalous of all, the people in charge had paid themselves
substantial "bonuses" for doing so. But because
accountability is increasingly rare in public service, no one was
punished.
EXCERPT
Brace Yourself for Pork Power Why is there a conspiracy of
silence in the conservation community about these events?
Jim Beers, a 30-year veteran of the USFWS, who worked for eight
years as a P-R/D-J fund administrator, believes the answer lies
in the proposed Conservation and Reinvestment Act (CARA), which
nearly made it through Congress last year and has an even better
chance this year.
In a nutshell, CARA will provide $3 billion annually for 15 years
to state resource agencies. The states are understandably
thrilled. So is the USFWS, which will get to administer the
money"just like it already does the Pittman-Robertson
and Dingell-Johnson fund," say the bill's supporters. And
with so much money flowing to the states for nongame purposes,
antihunters know they'll soon control those last few conservation
agencies not yet dominated by preservationist policies.
But if the USFWS and its state counterparts can't legitimately
manage $400 million a year, what hope is there that they will act
with any greater integrity once they get their hands on $3
billion a year? CARA is clearly one pork-pie the Congress must
not be allowed to bake.

Well I had to share the words with you:
I knew a man called him Sam 'the Cane'
Few folks even knew his name
But a hero yes was he
He left a boy, came back a man
Still many just don't understand
About the reasons we are free
I can't forget the look in his eyes
Or the tears he cried
As he said these words to me
All gave some, some gave all
Some stood through for the red, white and blue
. . and some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all
Now Sam 'the Cane' is no longer here
But his words are oh so clear
As they echo throughout our land
For all his friends who gave us all
Who stood the ground and took the fall
To help their fellow man
Love your country, live with pride
And don't forget those who died
America can't you see?

R.I. hunter charged with assault
THORNDIKE A Thorndike landowner was assaulted this week
after confronting several Rhode Island deer hunters who were
hunting on his property without permission, according to law
enforcement officials.
On Thursday, law enforcement officials from the Maine State
Police, Waldo County Sheriff's Department and the Maine Warden
Service gather at a residence in Albion.
One hunter has been charged in the alleged assault.
Richard Johnson, 58, of the Knowles Road, was treated at Thayer
Unit, MaineGeneral Medical Center in Waterville for head and
facial lacerations and later released, according to police.

The U.S. Coast Guard is a military, multi-mission, maritime
service. Operating within the Department of Transportation during
peacetime, the Service falls under the direction of the Secretary
of the Navy upon declaration of war or when the President
directs. The Coast Guard is a unique federal agency. In addition
to its non-redundant yet compelling national defense role as one
of the five U.S. Armed Services, the Coast Guard is charged with
a broad scope of regulatory, law-enforcement, humanitarian, and
emergency-response duties. The Coast Guard operates in a complex
and dangerous maritime environment characterized by rapidly
changing security threats at home and abroad.

they actually served under two different departments! I knew they
enforced maritime law but I had no idea that they were actually
part of the Department of Transportation during peacetime!
They risk their lives in times of peace to save and rescue those
in trouble and then in times of war can be called upon by our
President to serve under the Department of Defense.
I would like to say to those that serve or have ever served in
our Coast Guard, "Thank You for Your Service to Our

As Printed in The Exeter News-Letter on Tuesday, November
13th, 2001:
A group of fishermen started a discussion on an Internet message
board. The discussion started as a comment on the quality of the
warm water fishery in Lake Winnipesaukee. Warm Water species
include bass, pickerel and perch. The idea of bringing some of
the points in the discussion to the attention of the New
Hampshire Fish and Game Department (NHF&G) prompted the first
Warm Water Fisheries Meeting, which was held on Thursday, January
11th of this year. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the
meeting.
New Hampshire has always been known as a Trout and Salmon
fishermen's haven, but since the introduction of Bass around the
turn of the century, Bass fishing has been on the increase ever
since. Not so long ago one of the best-kept secrets in NH was the
quality of Bass being caught in Lake Winnipesaukee. Now we have
come full circle and questions on the stability of Bass and other
warm water species in Lake Winnipesaukee were one of the topics
at the meeting.
One point of discussion was the effect of tournaments on
fisheries like Lake Winnipesaukee. According to Steve Perry,
chief of the New Hampshire Fish and Game's inland fisheries
division, there were 471 Fishing Tournaments held in NH last year
and 431, or 91%, of those were Bass tournaments. Many anglers
defend tournaments by stating that Bass tournaments are catch and
release only and all the fish that are weighed in are released
back into the lakes.
The practice of catch and release brings up a subject that most
anglers agree is in need of a study of some kind and that is
delayed mortality. Delayed Mortality is when a fish dies long
after being released. The only way to study this possible problem
is to revisit the site of a tournament and look for dead fish and
possibly interview other fishermen to see if dead fish have been
seen. A lot of different studies are going to involve the
everyday angler and getting input from them in the course of
their normal time spent fishing.
Tournament anglers and well-run tournaments spend a lot of money
to insure the health of the fish. Live wells with aerators
(injects oxygen into the water of a live well) are required at
most tournaments, and chemicals to calm the fish and preserve
their protective coatings of slime are used by many tournament
anglers. To tournament fishermen the health of the fish is of the
utmost importance, since bringing in a dead fish results in a
penalty and loss of pounds of their total fish weight.
Cold Water species have been stocked for years but to this date
no warm water species have been stocked by NHF&G. Cold water
species like Trout and Salmon do not breed the same as warm water
species. Since the introduction of Bass into NH lakes, Bass have
gotten to where they are on their own. Whether to devote the same
amount of money to a Warm Water fishery is another subject
altogether. I do not believe that this was discussed at the
meeting, but I am sure it will come up in future meetings.
Cold Water Fisheries and Warm Water Fisheries should not get the
same amount of funding because they are two different types of
fishing. The methods used for cold water species do not lend
themselves to Catch and Release as well as warm water species.
Cold water species are also much more sought after as a food
source and I believe you will find a much larger percentage of
cold water anglers keep their catch.
Let's face it, and I am sure some cooks will tell me how to
prepare a delicious Bass, but Trout and Salmon are a more tasty
fish then warm water species. Don't get me wrong, I am not much
of a freshwater fish eater at all. I usually release every fish
that I catch, including Trout and Salmon. If I catch a wounded or
gut hooked fish, then I keep them and usually give them to my Mom
or my Mother-in-law since they both love fish of all kinds.
Bass are a prolific species and the majority of Bass fishermen do
practice Catch and Release. Also Trout and Salmon, although
heavily stocked now, are a native species and Bass are an
introduced species to the northeast. Look at the population of
Bass now and they have only been in New Hampshire for about one
hundred years.
I am not denying the need for Warm Water Species management and a
warm water fishery study. We also need to monitor tournaments,
basically because they can be; you can't monitor every
Non-Tournament fisherman out there fishing. Tournaments already
take counts and weights that can be used as a measure of the
fishery.
Tournaments also need to be held to some sort of standards to
assure that fish are handled correctly and released in a proper
manner to prevent as much delayed mortality as possible. Short of
education through pamphlets when licenses are bought, we can only
hope that the average angler acts as sportsman-like as possible,
like the majority of Tournament fishermen already do.
There is no question that Warm Water fisheries deserve more
funding than they are receiving now, but to suggest that they
receive the same amount of funding as Cold Water fisheries is
comparing Apples and Oranges.
This first meeting was just the beginning of a new era of
communication between fishermen and the NH Fish and Game
Department. Hopefully the NH Fish and Game Department will
continue to hear fishermen's opinions on the Warm Water Fishery
here in New Hampshire.
Bombs
going off in our own Country!
"Radical Animal Rights Groups Step Up Protests"
PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 8 The incidents have not tailed off,
even since Sept. 11: a firebombing at a federal corral for wild
horses in northeastern California; a fire at a primate research
center in New Mexico, and back-to-back break-ins in Iowa, one at
a fur farm to release more than 1,000 mink, the other to free
pigeons raised for research.
All the incidents occurred in the last several weeks, and
loose-knit groups like the Animal Liberation Front or the Earth
Liberation Front have claimed responsibility. While many
mainstream protest groups have scaled back their activism since
the terrorist attacks, radical animal rights groups have not.
State and federal law enforcement officials say they are
frustrated and angered by the recent acts of sabotage. Some
investigators said they were worried that such vandalism could
escalate because the groups involved knew that agents were
already overwhelmed with reports of anthrax and terrorism.
Between them, the Animal Liberation Front and the Earth
Liberation Front have claimed responsibility for at least six
actions since Sept. 11, and for many others in recent years,
including fires at a Vail, Colo., ski resort, which they said
impinged on lynx habitat, and a Long Island housing-construction
site.
Eco-saboteurs, as they are called, are also suspected in a Sept.
8 fire at a McDonald's in Tucson, that caused extensive damage.
The initials "A.L.F." and "E.L.F." were
spray- painted at the scene.

A touching film and it tugs your heart strings!
I do not enjoy killing, but I could not stop eating meat, I could

Is eating meat OK, when the blood is on someone else's hands?

The movie shows a wife that says to her husband that hunting is

Country Pond Fish and Game Club Acquires Additional Land
The Country Pond Fish and Game
Club, Inc. (CPF&G), located at 82 Pond Street in Newton, New
Hampshire, has recently purchased approximately 40 acres of land
adjacent to the Clubs existing property on its north and
west side. There are two primary reasons the Club purchased this
land.
First, and foremost, is the fact that with the increased
residential development in the area it was determined that
establishing a buffer around our facilities would be in our best
interest. CPF&G wishes to be a good neighbor within the
community and the acquisition of a sizeable amount of land around
our existing property would help eliminate potential issues with
bordering neighbors.
Second, CPF&G does have a need for a modest expansion of our
existing facilities. It is anticipated that we will construct a
parking area, an outdoor archery range and other recreational
areas on some of the land which was recently purchased. The
majority of the land which was purchased, however, will remain
undeveloped, in its natural state, and will provide a substantial
portion of the buffer referred to above.
In order to accommodate the site plans which we envision, a
certain amount of clearing and excavation are necessary,
specifically on the small portion of land directly north of our
facility on Pond Street. This land, which is less than ten acres,
is bordered by Pond Street on the east, the Boston and Maine
Railroad tracks on the north and west, and our own land on the
south. We have obtained the necessary permit for the clearing of
trees on this portion of the acquired property, and are in the
process of applying for the necessary permits for excavation and
site development. To a large degree the economic value of the
entire transaction depends on our ability to excavate and
reconfigure some of the land which was purchased and which is
zoned Light Industrial/Commercial. There are no plans to
significantly expand the scope of our Clubs activities nor
to develop any of the purchased land which is zoned Residential..
We are fully aware that CPF&G must be a responsible neighbor.
We are diligently working with the Newton Planning Board and the
Newton Board of Selectmen to address our needs as well as the
needs of the community.
Country Pond Fish and Game Club
Board of Directors
Sportsmen Spoke Out in Salem, NH
As printed in the Exeter
News-Letter on Friday October 26th, 2001 (Items in Parenthesis
were edited out by the Newspaper):
On Wednesday September 5th there was standing room only in the
Knightly Meeting Room of the Salem New Hampshire Town Hall. The
Salem Conservation Commission held a public hearing to discuss
their decision to ban all hunting in the Salem Town Forest.
Hunters from around the State and some from out of state came to
show their dissatisfaction with the Commissions decision to
ban hunting on over 200 acres of land that make up the Salem Town
Forest. This was a familiar scene to many since last year the
Commission made a recommendation to the Salem Selectmen to ban
the use of firearms in the Town Forest. After a public hearing
the Selectmen decided to continue to allow muzzleloader and
archery hunting in the Forest.
Mr. Andrew Santo who had sold 10 acres of land to the Town of
Salem to be added to the existing Town Forest for $10,000, stated
that He had mentioned allowing hunting on several occasions but
that it had never been added to the deed. Everett McBride, who
served as a Selectmen last year, stated that He believed that
their decision to amend the deed to the Town Forest to include
hunting as an accepted activity was never carried out.
Conservation Commissioner George Jones questioned whether a deed
could legally be amended in that manner.
A lawyer advising the Conservation Commission told them that they
had the control of the Town Forest over the power of the
Selectmen. Due to increased activity in the forest and the use of
a new parking area, the Commission felt that safety was now a
factor and used their power to institute the ban on all hunting.
Mike Edwards of Kingston, NH, said that His Dad, who he considers
an "Old Yankee", told him to never give land to the
town, to the state, or to the Government, because they would
change the rules. (Mr. Edwards who is the NH Webmaster for New
England Sportsman Network (http://www.nesportsman.com) also
attended last years meeting.)
Several people came to the meeting after seeing the issue being
discussed on a live broadcast on the local cable channel. Most
were supporters who came to echo the hunters position to
request that the Commission reverse their decision and allow
hunters to use the Town Forest. (Stephanie Micklon, a NH State
Representative from Salem, also saw the broadcast and came down
to voice her opinion. Ms. Micklon who enjoys walking and taking
pictures in the Town Forest, came down to say that she considers
herself a "Bambi Lover", but would never deny hunters
the right to use the land. She also stated that she "feels
safer with hunters then with the dirt bikes" using the
forest.)
(Another woman who saw the live broadcast came down to say
"I dont like guns" and that she was nervous about
walking with her child in the Town Forest. She was upset that no
one had spoken out for the everyday user of the forest and she
felt that she had to come down to support the Conservation
Commissions decision.)
Doug Ross, A NH Fish and Game Commissioner, Dave Walsh, a
NHF&G Officer, and another officer attended the meeting.
Officer Walsh stated that he saw more danger with All Terrain
Vehicles then with hunters. When questioned on the enforcement of
Muzzleloader and Archery Only in the Town Forest, he said that he
covers several towns and responds when called, but that it was
the Commissions responsibility to put up signs and mark the
boundaries.
The question of marking the boundaries has come up before and is
on the Commissions agenda at a future date. The problem is
that signs fade and get destroyed and tags marking the boundaries
seem to disappear. Even with marking boundaries some people may
miss the signs and still cross into or out of the Town Forest. At
this point Commissioner Linda Harvey suggested recommending to
the Salem Selectmen to extend the ban to all of Salem, due to the
difficulty of enforcement in the Town Forest.
Mike Edwards approached the Commission and questioned Linda
Harvey on her comment of extending the Ban to all of Salem and
she stated that what she meant was to extend the limitation of
Muzzleloader and Archery Hunting Only to all of Salem. Mr.
Edwards proceeded to question her on the subject, but the
Chairman of the Conservation Commission stopped Mr. Edwards since
this was not the subject of the meeting.
After a short break the Commission brought the meeting back into
order. Conservation Commissioner George Jones who had proposed
the original motion that brought about the ban on hunting, now
made a motion to allow hunting by Muzzleloader and Archery Only
in the Town Forest. The motion would allow hunting by
Muzzleloader and Archery during the Regular firearms season and
for Archery to continue to the end of the State Archery season.
The motion also mentioned that the permit process, whereby
hunters had to register at the Salem Police Station to hunt in
the Forest, was being purposely left out of the new motion. The
Salem Conservation Commission voted unanimously to allow hunting
in the Town Forest.
After a discussion with NHF&G Commissioner Doug Ross, He
agreed to inform the NHF&G headquarters of the decision and
to include in the NH State Hunting Booklet that the Town Forest
of Salem would be Muzzleloader and Archery Only.
